Forget Password?

Am I the only one who has trouble remembering some of my passwords?

In the last few days I have accessed some sites that I haven’t used in a year. Since I got my new computer over the summer those passwords aren’t a part of the memory on this unit. I have a little place that I record my passwords because of situations like this however, I have found out that I don’t ALWAYS record a new one.

Getting locked out is frustrating and time consuming. I find myself asking the question, “what do I have of any value that would make someone want to steal my identity anyway?”.

Then it came to me this morning – my identity has already been stolen and it was with my permission.

“Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We’re speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you.” II Corinthians 5:17-20 MSG

We’ve been created new – a new life emerges – we have a fresh start where all our sins are forgiven. New identity!

When God looks at us through Christ He sees someone who is clean, perfect, His child and friend! The Father has set up a new account for us, we have open access!

“With Jesus as our high priest, we can feel free to come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we receive mercy and kindness to help us when we need it.” Hebrews 4:16 ERV

But, what about the password? What if we forget it? Simple!

“On your feet now—applaud God! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence. Know this: God is God, and God, God. He made us; we didn’t make him. We’re his people, his well-tended sheep. 4 Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him. For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever.” Psalm 100 MSG

The password is easy – it’s our expression of gratitude! Open before us is our new identity, we sign in with grateful hearts and are given the right to His love, forgiveness, mercy, grace and help.

I will never forget that password – THANK YOU!

Delete This

This last weekend we had a LARGE garage sale. Oh my!! It was very successful and we felt blessed.

I had placed some larger items on on-line sites and so this morning I found myself deleting the things that had sold. The words that were continually popping up on my screen after I selected the delete button were “are you sure you want to delete this item”. Yes!

That reminded me of yesterday’s blog – the handwriting that was against us has been deleted! Amen and Amen!

Different Scriptures came to mind as I was thanking the Father that he has deleted my sin through Jesus. I want to share a few with you and hope that they are a real blessing to you as well.

Christ is the sacrifice that takes away our sins and the sins of all the world’s people.” I John 2:2 CEV

“How great is God’s love for all who worship him? Greater than the distance between heaven and earth! 12 How far has the Lord taken our sins from us? Farther than the distance from east to west!” Psalm 103:11-12 CEV

“‘All of them will know me, no matter who they are. 12 I will treat them with kindness,
even though they are wicked.  I will forget their sins.” Hebrews 8:11-12 CEV

“But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away.” I John 1:9 CEV

Our sin is taken away, farther than the East is from the West, forgotten and forgiven! That’s a lot to be thankful for.

When the devil tries to accuse us of our past or guilt us over something we have done we can boldly say “Devil, delete this”!

A Stubborn Mule

Have you ever faced a dilemma when you wondered which way you should go – which was the right decision to make? I have on multiple occasions. In fact, Dave and I have a few decisions ahead of us in the next few weeks that we are still seeking the Lord’s direction on.

It’s great to know that we aren’t left to our own limited knowledge. We have Someone we can talk to and gain insight from Who knows the beginning and the end. Someone who is infinite in wisdom and willing to help.

“I was still being held prisoner in the courtyard of the palace guards when the Lord told me: ‘I am the Lord, and I created the whole world. Ask me, and I will tell you things that you don’t know and can’t find out.'” Jeremiah 33:1-3 CEV

I am so grateful that His wisdom goes far beyond mine and that I can depend on the Lord to give me the direction I need. His wisdom keeps us from making mistakes if we are willing to listen.

“You said to me, ‘I will point out the road that you should follow. I will be your teacher and watch over you. Don’t be stupid like horses and mules that must be led with ropes to make them obey.’” Psalm 32:8-9 CEV

The image I used for today’s blog makes me laugh. I have sometimes been like the mule in the picture. Dug in and unwilling to move. However, I am thankful for the Lord’s patience and love. The Bible tells us He is “long-suffering”.

“And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him (Moses) there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,” Exodus 34:5-6 KJV

Thank you Lord for being merciful, gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth!

The Lord is faithful to forgive our sins of stubbornness and disobedience. He is abundant in goodness.

“So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, ‘I’ll tell the Lord each one of my sins.’ Then you forgave me and took away my guilt. We worship you, Lord, and we should always pray whenever we find out that we have sinned. Then we won’t be swept away by a raging flood. You are my hiding place!  You protect me from trouble, and you put songs in my heart because you have saved me.” Psalm 32:5-7 CEV

The Lord is merciful and He always forgives. I think the raging flood mentioned in the verses above is the flood of guilt that rushes over us and keeps us from moving forward. The Lord doesn’t want us being held captive by guilt or thoughts of unworthiness. He not only forgives our sins, He also chooses to forget them.

Those are excellent reasons to sing!

Today I am grateful for the Lord’s leading, for His forgiveness and for giving me a clean conscience.

A Joyful Noise

We are at NASCAR Championship week in Avondale, AZ. Last night there was a lot of joyful noise!

It was the parade of all the big trucks that haul the racecars to the track. Campers lined the streets to hoot and holler for their favorite driver and the truck drivers accommodated with blowing their air horns.

Lots of joyful noise – lots of celebration – lots of grateful people!

It’s a natural reaction to make noise when something makes you happy. People yell and cheer at sporting events, in fact, in all the years we attended rodeos the announcers would encourage us to “cheer ’em on, make some noise”, and that’s what we would do.

Little kids love to make noise. Each of my children and my grandchildren have sat on my kitchen floor with pots and pans between their legs, banging on them with spoons or spatulas and been the stars of their own one-man-band.

Why should it be any different for those of us who are God’s children? We should be making some noise and celebrating our relationship with our loving Father.

“Shout praises to the Lord, everyone on this earth. Be joyful and sing as you come in
to worship the Lord! You know the Lord is God! He created us, and we belong to him; we are his people, the sheep in his pasture. Be thankful and praise the Lord as you enter his temple. The Lord is good!  His love and faithfulness will last forever.” Psalm 100 CEV

Did you see that phrase, “He created us, we belong to Him, we are His people, His sheep”? Those are amazing words!

We belong to Him – we are His sheep! We know from reading Psalm 23 how He takes care of His sheep. He provides us with rest, food, water, protection from our enemies, and He sends goodness and mercy to follow us all the days of our lives.

That kind of loving care is worth shouting about!

If someone carrying a football across the goal line or someone hitting a ball out of the park or someone driving their car across the finish line first is shout worthy, our Father and our God is certainly worthy of shouts of praise.

Come on family – let’s make some joyful noise!

Teach the World to Sing

In 1971, the CocaCola company wanted to buy the world a Coke and teach it how to sing but the world had been singing in harmony for thousands of years before they came out with that slogan.

The seasons sing in harmony with the earth as they provide the time and the temperature to produce an abundance of crops; the pull of the moon causes the tide to ebb and flow; the course of the earth’s rotation gives us daylight and dark.

The world is singing in harmony.

It’s the people on earth that need more than a Coke, they need an awareness of the greatest of the Lord.

“Tell everyone on this earth to sing happy songs  in praise of the Lord. Make music for him on harps. Play beautiful melodies! Sound the trumpets and horns and celebrate with joyful songs for our Lord and King! Command the ocean to roar with all of its creatures, and the earth to shout with all of its people. Order the rivers to clap their hands, and all of the hills to sing together. Let them worship the Lord!…” Psalm 98:4-9 CEV

When the Jewish people left Egypt they put into song the marvelous things they had seen the Lord do. Before they entered into their Promised Land, Moses instructed them to tell their children of all the Lord’s mighty works to make sure they didn’t forget the Lord’s power and His protecting love.

It is incumbent upon us to tell our children and our grandchildren, our friends and neighbors, the amazing things the Lord has done. (that’s why I enjoy sharing this blog with you each day)

“Sing a new song to the Lord! He has worked miracles, and with his own powerful arm, he has won the victory. The Lord has shown the nations that he has the power to save and to bring justice. God has been faithful in his love for Israel, and his saving power is seen everywhere on earth.” Psalm 98:1-3 CEV

The “songs” we sing and the stories we tell aren’t just wishful thinking and fairy tales, they are the stories of the Lord’s faithfulness and His love. They are words of life and encouragement. That’s why I encourage you to keep a Gratitude Journal – the works of the Lord in my life, in your life, need to be recorded so others will know why we have such great hope!

“Even if you have to suffer for doing good things, God will bless you. So stop being afraid and don’t worry about what people might do. 15 Honor Christ and let him be the Lord of your life. Always be ready to give an answer when someone asks you about your hope.” I Peter 3:14-15 CEV

Let’s give the world a new song – a song of hope and the Father’s unconditional love!

Great Day of Praise

Thank you to those who responded yesterday with comments on the blog telling me three of the things you were grateful for. Add three new things to your journaling this morning – let’s keep this accounting of praise going throughout the month of November.

When I was a child, we grew up singing a hymn in our church, “Count Your Blessings”.

1 When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

2 Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by. [Refrain] by Johnson Oatman 1897

Counting our blessings puts our focus where it belongs, on the Lord and His goodness. The Psalms are filled with praise – King David wrote many of the psalms as songs of praise and deliverance.

“Sing a new song to the Lord! Everyone on this earth, sing praises to the Lord,  sing and praise his name. Day after day announce, ‘The Lord has saved us!’ Tell every nation on earth, ‘The Lord is wonderful and does marvelous things! The Lord is great and deserves greatest praise! He is the only God worthy of our worship. Other nations worship idols, but the Lord created the heavens. Give honor and praise to the Lord, whose power and beauty
fill his holy temple.’” Psalm 96:1-6 CEV

This psalm admonishes everyone on earth to sing praises, every day! (Read the whole chapter). Praise the Lord because He is great and does marvelous things. Our God is not an idol made with human hands. No, He is the God who created all things.

When we see a beautiful sunrise, praise the Lord. When we experience the beauty of the clouds in the sky, the flowers in bloom, the sighting of a new born calf, a field ripe with grain, the miracle of a new life or the expression of age-old love – we should praise the Lord. He is the one who has filled the earth with wonder and our hearts with love.

“Tell the heavens and the earth to be glad and celebrate! Command the ocean to roar with all of its creatures 12  and the fields to rejoice with all of their crops. Then every tree in the forest will sing joyful songs 13 to the Lord.” verses 11-13 CEV

Don’t let the mully-grubs capture your thinking. Lift your voice and make this a great day of praise!

Get Ready – It’s Coming

I know that we have quite a few new readers of the morning blog so I need to give you fair warning.

It’s Coming!

What is it? It’s the month of praise and thanksgiving!

I like to give thanks all year long but in November I focus on Scriptures of gratitude and praise. Each day I will be choosing a few of my favorite verses and sharing them with you but I just couldn’t wait. This morning we’ll focus our minds on praise as well.

“I will always praise the Lord. With all my heart, I will praise the Lord. Let all who are helpless, listen and be glad. Honor the Lord with me! Celebrate his great name.” Psalm 34:1-3 CEV

It’s time to praise and celebrate the great name of the Lord! Break out the confetti, or in Bible days, the palm branches and sing and dance because the Lord is good.

Several years ago I challenged myself to keep a “gratitude” journal for the month of November. I would write down three things each day I was grateful for.

I no longer do it just for November, I keep it all year long. In chapter 34 of Psalms, King David lists several things people should be grateful for. Let’s look at a few of them (I strongly encourage you to read the entire chapter).

“I was a nobody, but I prayed, and the Lord saved me  from all my troubles.” verse 6 CEV

I’m so thankful that God doesn’t limit His goodness and salvation to just the elite. His heart is open to all.

“Discover for yourself  that the Lord is kind. Come to him for protection, and you will be glad.” verse 8 CEV

We need to take a few moments to focus on and be grateful for the Lord’s kindness and protection. Yesterday, did you have any close calls or near misses when it came to your safety? Be glad that the Lord was there for you – covering you with His protection.

“When his people pray for help, he listens and rescues them from their troubles. 18 The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope.” verses 17&18 CEV

I’m so thankful that the Lord isn’t deaf. He listens when we pray and He brings us out of our discouragement and hopeless. He replaces them with His peace and joy!

There you have it! Three things to be grateful for. Let God’s word create an attitude of gratitude all month long.

Are you ready?

Sit Down – Give Thanks

I had to remind myself this morning to “sit down and give thanks”.

Dave and I began to talk about the last minute things we still need to do today and then that led us into a conversation of the first things we need to do when we get home. Boy, when we opened that gate, the horses (chores) ran wild.

So now, I’m taking a deep breath and giving thanks for the wonderful memories we have of this summer season.

“And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.” John 6:10-12

Look at an example of Jesus giving thanks.

Let me set the scene – 5000 hungry men, not to mention their wives and children, are on a hillside listening to Jesus teach. All Jesus has for food is 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish, a lunch meant to meet the needs of a boy.

And now we see Jesus giving thanks.

He is giving thanks for what he knows God is about to do. He is giving thanks for God’s word being true. He is giving thanks for God being faithful and revealing his love to the disciples and this group.

Jesus has been teaching – ask and it shall be given unto to you; take no thought for what you will eat or drink or what you will put on because you’re heavenly Father knows that you have need of these things; whatsoever things you desire when you pray believe you receive them and you shall have them.

This is God’s word and it is true so – GIVE THANKS!

Jesus gave thanks before the miracle occurred and not after He saw it – He had faith. What is your “feeding the 5000” moment? Are you begging God and telling Him how bad things are or a you giving thanks in advance for what you know He has promised to do.

Sit and Give thanks!

Please & Thank You

We just returned home from spending one full day and two half days with our kids in the Valley. Those of you who read the blog a couple days ago know we went specifically to celebrate a granddaughter’s fourth birthday but it was also time to see all the rest of the family and visit with them.

It feels so good to have our necks hugged, give and receive kisses and hear all the “I love yous” being said. Better than cool water on a hot day! Gratitude feeds the soul.

For part of the drive down on Thursday and the return drive home yesterday we were in pouring rain. The windshield wipers were having a hard time keeping up; visibility was really limited. Dave does the driving and I so appreciate him for doing that.

At one point, I thanked him for being such a good driver. He thanked me for praying for the rain to stop. These aren’t empty words that we exchange; we truly appreciate what each other does.

I have no trouble asking the Father to clear the roads ahead of us and to keep us safe as we travel. He’s my Father and I know He wants to keep us safe as we go so I always ask Him to protect us on each trip. When we get there, we always thank Him for our safety.

“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will be opened for everyone who knocks. Would any of you give your hungry child a stone, if the child asked for some bread? 10 Would you give your child a snake if the child asked for a fish? 11 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give good things to people who ask.” Matthew 7:7-11 CEV

As parents and grandparents, we do little things for our kids that we knew they would enjoy. We are God’s family and He wants to give us those things that are best for us. Who, better than He, knows what that is?

He has no desire to harm us or bring destruction into our lives. In fact, Jesus said that it is the thief, the devil, that comes to steal, kill and destroy; He came to bring us an abundant life, life filled to the full.

“But you saved us from our hateful enemies, and you put them to shame. We boast about you, our God, and we are always grateful.” Psalm 44:7-8 CEV

There is no reason not to be grateful! The Father has blessed us with so much. It’s important that we remember to appreciate His love and be thankful for His provision.

A Day to Remember

We, as a nation, celebrate today as a day of remembrance. It’s not a day of jubliant celebration like the 4th of July, it’s more somber. It should be a day we never forget, a day of gratitude.

At one point this remembrance occurred on May 1. It was referred to as Decoration Day. Graves of the fallen were decorated as a sign of honor.

This nation was founded by people who were willing to lay down their very lives so that others could and would know freedom. Freedom from tyranny. Freedom from dictatorial governments. Freedom from oppression. Freedom to govern under their own set of laws.

Freedom.

I am thankful that I have no immediate relatives who died in combat. Some served bravely but none of them made the ultimate sacrifice and so we honor them on Veteran’s Day. I have friends who died in Viet Nam and I have friends whose loved ones have died in conflict.

Their lives were lost to preserve freedom. I am grateful.

If you are with friends and family today hug them tightly and thank God for their safety. Then take time to remember in prayer those whose hearts are aching because of the loss of a loved one. Thank the Lord for those who willingly served, who went when they were called and never returned.

Today is a day to remember. Let’s honor them with our gratitude and with our prayers.

The greatest display of love any of us will ever receive came from Jesus. He gave his life for each one of us.

“There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.” I Timothy 2:5-6 NLT

The second greatest expression was that of the American military member.

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 NLV

Make this a day to remember.
