Heart Filled With Love

No it’s not Valentine’s Day.

I woke up this morning and like every morning I asked the Lord what He wanted me to share. The Lord was quiet and so was I. Then I knew He wanted me to be still and  share my morning quiet time with Him alone.

The words of gratitude and love began to pour out of my heart as easily as the coffee from the pot filled my cup. I started telling Him how thankful I am that He found me, saved me and made me His own.

I’m still not finished with what I want to say to the Lord and I know He still has more to say to me so I will share these verses from Psalm 16 with you and encourage you to take time with Jesus this morning.

He wants you to know of His vast love. He wants you to know that His thoughts are of you. He has your picture on His mantle and in His wallet. He has your drawings on His refrigerator and He’s brought His cup to share your morning coffee time.

“You, Lord, are all I want!
You are my choice,
and you keep me safe.

6 You make my life pleasant,
and my future is bright.

7 I praise you, Lord,
for being my guide.
Even in the darkest night,
your teachings fill my mind.

8 I will always look to you,
as you stand beside me
and protect me from fear.

9 With all my heart,
I will celebrate,
and I can safely rest.

10 I am your chosen one.
You won’t leave me in the grave
or let my body decay.

11 You have shown me
the path to life,
and you make me glad
by being near to me.
Sitting at your right side,
I will always be joyful.” Psalm 16:5-11 CEV

Share your heart filled with love with Jesus! It’s the best way to wake up.

R E S P E C T

How many of you were alive in 1967 when Aretha Franklin had her big hit, RESPECT?

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Find out what it means to me
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Take care, TCB
Oh (sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me)
A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me, sock it to me)
Whoa, babe (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)…by Otis Redding

Did that start your morning with a smile? I hope so. Do you know what the Bible says about respect?

Did you know that God is no respecter of persons?

Then Peter said, “I can see, for sure, that God does not respect one person more than another. 35 He is pleased with any man in any nation who honors Him and does what is right. ” Acts 10:34-35 NLV

When Peter made this statement he was in the home of Cornelius. Cornelius was a Gentile, a non-Jew, and he was considered unclean, second-rate by the Jewish people.  The Lord gave Peter a vision confirming to him that it was ok for Peter to go and preach to these people.

You see what Peter is saying here. God doesn’t prefer one race or nationality of people. What God does look at is the heart of man; does he honor God and do right.

Our respect or admiration should have the same basis. We often display prejudice because of someone’s educational or financial standing or lack of it. James is quick to point out that this is wrong. What we should be looking at is their character.

My brothers and sisters, practice your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ by not favoring (respect) one person over another. For example, two men come to your worship service. One man is wearing gold rings and fine clothes; the other man, who is poor, is wearing shabby clothes. Suppose you give special attention (respect) to the man wearing fine clothes and say to him, “Please have a seat.” But you say to the poor man, “Stand over there,” or “Sit on the floor at my feet.” Aren’t you discriminating against people and using a corrupt standard to make judgments?

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Didn’t God choose poor people in the world to become rich in faith and to receive the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? Yet, you show no respect to poor people. Don’t rich people oppress you and drag you into court? Don’t they curse the good name of Jesus, the name that was used to bless you?

You are doing right if you obey this law from the highest authority: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If you favor (respect) one person over another, you’re sinning, and this law convicts you of being disobedient. 10 If someone obeys all of God’s laws except one, that person is guilty of breaking all of them.” James 2:1-10 GW

And then there are those who show respect or preference to some because of occupational standing. Many times the CEO is treated with more respect than the janitor. Again this isn’t God’s way of thinking.

Slaves, you must obey your earthly masters. Show them great respect and be as loyal to them as you are to Christ. Try to please them at all times, and not just when you think they are watching. You are slaves of Christ, so with your whole heart you must do what God wants you to do. Gladly serve your masters, as though they were the Lord himself, and not simply people. You know that you will be rewarded for any good things you do, whether you are slaves or free.

Slave owners, you must treat your slaves with this same respect. Don’t threaten them. They have the same Master in heaven that you do, and he doesn’t have any favorites.” Ephesians 6:5-9 CEV

Respect, Biblical respect, has nothing to do with class, education, wealth or nationality. God says that all men and women  are worthy of respect because they are His creation, created in His image. He wants us to show honor or value to one another, displaying His love.

Love each other in a way that makes you feel close like brothers and sisters. And give each other more honor than you give yourself.”  Romans 12:10 ERV

I realize this is an area where I still need some work. I am embarrassed by the times where I have looked at someone and judged them strictly on their appearance without knowing their character. God isn’t pleased when I do that.

I want to see through His eyes, having compassion for everyone I see. I truly want to live as Jesus did – He had no prejudice, He didn’t respect or prefer one person over another.  His love for His Father was always first and then He loved us with the same love He had for himself.

“Teacher, what is the most important commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus answered: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. 38 This is the first and most important commandment. 39 The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, “Love others as much as you love yourself.” 40 All the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40 CEV

Now back to a line from Aretha’s song:

“R-E-S-P-E-C-T…Find out what it means to me”

To me it means loving the way God does!

Who Knows My Name

Remember the sitcom from the 80’s, Cheers?

The theme song said “Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name And they’re always glad you came”. Then Norm would walk in and the whole bar would call out “Norm” as he walked to the end of the bar and sat down.

This was a popular show for 11 years. People identified with the characters, they became friends to many. I think what probably resonated the most with the viewing audience is that so many people just want someone to recognize that they are here.

They want to be known! We all do.

I heard a pastor say two things impacted him greatly when he was an 18 year old. It was then, for the first time, he heard that God knew who he was and that God loved him unconditionally. He said that was all it took for him to give his life to the Lord.

The reality of knowing that God Almighty knows me – He knows everything about me and loves me anyway, is pretty overwhelming.

“You, Lord, brought me safely through birth, and you protected me when I was a baby at my mother’s breast. 10 From the day I was born, I have been in your care, and from the time of my birth, you have been my God.” Psalm 22:9-10 CEV

“You are the one who put me together inside my mother’s body, 14 and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous! Of this I have no doubt.” Psalm 139:13-14 CEV

God, the Father, knew us as we were growing in our mothers’ womb. He knows every detail, He knows every bump and bruise, every hurt and disappoint, every failure and bad thought and He loves us unconditionally.

Each of us knows what it’s like to face rejection; having people we  call friends  learn something about us that reveals our actions in our darkest moments and they turn and walk away.

It’s not that way with God the Father. He knows every sin and shortcoming; He knows our past and our future. He loves us still. He loves us unconditionally.

“Christ died for us at a time when we were helpless and sinful. 7 No one is really willing to die for an honest person, though someone might be willing to die for a truly good person. 8 But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.

9 But there is more! Now that God has accepted us because Christ sacrificed his life’s blood, we will also be kept safe from God’s anger. 10 Even when we were God’s enemies, he made peace with us, because his Son died for us. Yet something even greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, we will be saved by his Son’s life. 11 And in addition to everything else, we are happy because God sent our Lord Jesus Christ to make peace with us.” Romans 5:6-11 CEV

King David had great victories but he also had some real failures of character. He defeated Goliath, became Israel’s king, led armies to victory but he also committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband murdered.

He’s the one who wrote the verses about God knowing us even while we are in our mother’s womb. He was well aware that God is always with us. He knew first hand that God’s love is unconditional. This is what he recorded  the Lord saying to us in Psalm 91.

Because you love me, I will rescue you. I will protect you because you know my name. 15 When you call to me, I will answer you. I will be with you when you are in trouble. I will save you and honor you.” Psalm 91:14-15 GW

Thank you Father for knowing me, loving me, making peace with me and saving me!  Thank you for knowing my name!

Never Too Young

A few days back I received a message from someone who has been very dear to us for many years.

She reminded me of a time when Kim and Koy were younger and they spent the night with her step son. I had sent their children’s Bible with them. She was wanting to get a similar Bible now for her granddaughter.

I had to tell her that the specific Bible had I for the kids is no longer in print but I was able to recommend another version that I know of and have given to parents and their children in recent years.  It’s called The Beginners Bible.*

I am so grateful for my early Sunday School teaching and I believe strongly that children are never too young to learn about God’s love and the amazing story of grace.  The photograph above is one of my family when I was little. A local newspaper photograph came out to take our picture for an article in the Sunday edition. My parents raised us with the Bible as our foundation!

When I think of examples of children learning about the Lord I am reminded of Samuel. His parents sent him to live with Eli, the priest, when he was just a young child. Samuel heard the Lord call his name in the middle of the night and he responded with an open heart.

Eli told Samuel, “Go to bed. If he calls you again, say, ‘Speak, Lord. I am your servant, and I am listening.’”    So Samuel went back to bed. 10 The Lord came and stood there. He called as he did before, saying, “Samuel, Samuel!”  Samuel said, “Speak. I am your servant, and I am listening.”  11 The Lord said to Samuel, “I will soon do things in Israel that will shock anyone who hears about them.”     I Samuel 3:9-11 ERV

But even before that, Moses gave instruction to the whole nation of Israel that they should tell their children about the mighty things that God had done to save them.

Memorize these laws and think about them. Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and your foreheads to help you obey them. 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them all the time—whether you’re at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. 20 Write them on the door frames of your homes and on your town gates.” Deuteronomy 11:18-20 CEV

King David was taught about the Lord when he was young; Abraham taught Isaac about God’s faithfulness and in the New Testament Jesus scolded his disciples for not letting the little children come to Him.

Some people brought their small children to Jesus so that he could lay his hands on them to bless them. But when the followers saw this, they told the people not to do this. 16 But Jesus called the little children to him and said to his followers, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because God’s kingdom belongs to people who are like these little children. 17 The truth is, you must accept God’s kingdom like a little child accepts things, or you will never enter it.” Luke 18:15-17 ERV

Awww, Jesus was talking about childlike faith. We adults tend to rationalize, dissect and over analyze. Children accept things, that are passed their understanding, by faith.

It’s important for us as parents and grandparents to give our children good solid Bible teaching so that they grow into young men and women with a heart for the Lord.  The book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon to his son. The whole book is filled with parental instruction based on God’s principles.

Bring up a child by teaching him the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn away from it.” Proverbs 22:6 NLV

Wisdom is a life-giving tree, the source of happiness for all who hold on to her. 19 By his wisdom and knowledge the Lord created heaven and earth. 20 By his understanding he let the ocean break loose and clouds release the rain. 21 My child, use common sense and sound judgment! Always keep them in mind. 22 They will help you to live a long and beautiful life.” Proverbs 3:18-22 CEV

One of the best things we can do for the young ones in our lives is to teach them God’s word. They need to know that God is a loving Father and He wants the best for his children. We teach and we pray. God will guide.

Lord, let your Word and Your love take on true meaning for our children. We pray that they seek You for the answers to life. Bless them, encourage them and keep them safe as they grow. In Jesus name. Amen

*I will suggest that you use a Bible that is geared to the child’s age level.   The Beginner’s Bible. is for little ones but there are also Bibles geared to middle school age and high schoolers. This is one of those times I am providing you with a link to Amazon where you can find Bibles for all ages.

First Look

First Look. This isn’t a term I was familiar with before our grandson’s wedding.

No this isn’t their “first look” picture; they should be able to share that on their own without my interference.

Anyway, First Look describes the first time the bride and groom see each other dressed for their wedding. Many brides and grooms are having their photographs taken before the ceremony but still want the element of surprise when they see each other for the first time that day. The photographer captures that intimate moment when they First Look at each other.

Last night I went to bed thinking of how special that must have been for them and how truly special it is for us when we get our first look of Jesus.

I grew up in the church and always remember knowing Jesus. As a little girl I remember when I realized I wanted to give Him my heart and accepted Jesus as my Savior.  However, I know that I took His great sacrifice for granted. I didn’t take into account what it truly cost to pay for my sin and for me to be reconciled to the Father.

It took years for me to realize that!

But I do remember the day when I fell hopelessly in love with Jesus, the day I gave Him my all. That day I came to know, really know, that if I went through the rest of my life with only Jesus by my side that was more than enough.

That was my First Look at the bridegroom who held my heart and still does today!

The Lord makes me very happy. I am completely happy with my God. He dressed me in the clothes of salvation. He put the victory coat on me.
I look like a man dressed for his wedding, like a bride covered with jewels.
11 The earth causes plants to grow, and a garden makes the seeds planted there rise up. In the same way, the Lord God will make goodness and praise
grow throughout the nations.” Isaiah 61:10-11 ERV

As a little girl I grew up singing a chorus in Sunday School, Jesus Loves Me This I Know. According to my Mom I sang it all the time running around the house. But then there was that day when I would start to sing that simple chorus and my throat would constrict and the words would struggle out as I wiped the tears from my cheeks.  I was overwhelmed by His love.

“Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.”

Like the bride seeing her groom for the first time on their wedding day, I hope that you are seeing Jesus with eyes of love. I’ve learned that no matter how long I am in relationship with Him he looks at me with that same unconditional love in His eyes.

The Lord came to us from far away, saying, “I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. So I have helped you come to Me with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 NLV

Amazing love – Amazing grace – Amazing sacrifice – Amazing life

A Good Good Father

Do you know, really know, what Christ did for you on the cross? Not only did He die so that our sins would be forgiven, He gave His life so that we could be joined in a Father/son, Father/daughter relationship with God Almighty!

WOW!!

You parents who are getting your kids ready to go back to school know what it’s like to be a provider. My kids are older and so it’s been a long time since I bought school supplies or had a kid in athletics and the $$ that can be spent there. But as a parent, that’s what we do – we provide. Sometimes, we may wonder why and how but we still provide.

We provide emotional support, food, clothing, shelter, $$, medical care, life skills and good practical advice for living and dealing with life. Why? Because we’re the parent and we love this child and want them to grow into a man or woman that we can be proud of – someone who will be loving, ambitious, a benefit to their community and not a drain on society.

Well, God the Father, feels this way and more about you. His love is infinitely greater than ours – His is unconditional and He looks for ways to cover our faults and failures and to bring us up to a better place. He has promised to supply ALL our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
When we look at His relationship with Jesus we will see an example of the relationship He desires to have with us.

All of the messages Jesus taught, all of the times He healed, the miracles He did were all examples of the Father’s love for us. He wanted people to know and understand just what a loving Father was.

The religious rulers of the day were condemning and critical in all they did. Jesus was revealing an amazing contrast between relationship with the Father and the religious order of man.

God’s Spirit makes us sure that we are his children. 17 His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him.” Romans 8:16–17 CEV

Now I know some of you aren’t going to like that word suffer.

But how did Jesus suffer? He suffered public ridicule, defamation of character, he turned the other cheek, He put others first and then He suffered death on the cross, so we don’t have too. The suffering we are called to is  giving up our desires and ambitions for life to live a better, more loving, more sacrificial life for Him.

The rewards are certainly worth it. We will share in His glory. That’s the inheritance we receive.

Let the Father show you His love today! He’s just waiting for you to spend time with Him.

On A Clear Day

I think the words go, on a clear day you can see forever but our view yesterday was far from clear.

This is what we saw from the windows of the truck as we drove from Idaho to Nevada. Smoke from the fires is everywhere. We planned our trip home through areas we haven’t been to before and wanted to see the ranch country of Jordan Valley and around Winnemucca. Guess we’ll save that for another trip.

But all that smoke got me to thinking about what it’s like to have a foggy mind and not be clear headed. There’s a lot of that going around these days. People doing and saying things that are irrational and selfish.

If we’d all just take time to think a bit more before we open our mouths. Jesus was giving some instruction to His followers about this very thing.

Everyone was so eager to correct their neighbors, family members and co-workers that Jesus had to explain to them the importance of removing offensive actions from their own lives before they started “Helping” others see their faults.

I think there’s a lesson here for all of us.  We seem to make allowances for our own actions that we aren’t willing to concede to others.

Why do you say to your friend, ‘Let me take that piece of dust out of your eye’? Look at yourself first! You still have that big piece of wood in your own eye. You are a hypocrite! First, take the wood out of your own eye. Then you will see clearly to get the dust out of your friend’s eye.” Matthew 7:4-5 ERV

The Apostle Paul wrote all about love in the 13th chapter of I Corinthians. I’ve shared it with you on numerous occasions. He tells us that love is gentle, kind, not jealous, overlooks wrong actions, doesn’t keep score. And then he ends is definition of love by saying that it never fails.

I will admit we will never be able to live this life of love perfectly but that doesn’t mean we quit trying. Paul goes on to say a few verses later that as we mature we will put away foolish thinking or as I like to call it selfishness. There is nothing more foolish than a “me” centered life. Paul tells us that kind of living is like looking into a dark or smoky mirror. Our vision of what is true and real is obscured.

But…he goes on to say, that when we look into Jesus face we will see clearly. Now I do believe that this verse is making reference to how things will be in heaven but they also apply to how things should be here on earth. When we look closely at Jesus we see how everything he said and did was motivated by love. As we grow and mature we will see that our lives are also reflecting more of His love.

When we were children, we thought and reasoned as children do. But when we grew up, we quit our childish ways. 12 Now all we can see of God is like a cloudy picture  in a mirror. Later we will see him face to face. We don’t know everything, but then we will, just as God completely understands us.” I Corinthians 13:11-12 CEV

One more Biblical example on being able to see clearly. It comes from the Old Testament. Moses had just led the Jews out of Egypt and across the Red Sea. They were wandering in the Sinai Desert. The Lord sent a pillar, a cloud to cover them in the day to protect them from the overwhelming heat and He sent a pillar or cloud of fire to protect them at night from the bitter cold.

The Lord went before them, in a pillar of cloud during the day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire during the night to give them light. So they could travel day and night. 22 The pillar of cloud during the day and the pillar of fire during the night did not leave the people.” Exodus 13:21-22 NLV

God’s love was displayed in the fire. It made it possible for the Israelites to see clearly at night. God is still displaying His love to us. He wants us to see clearly. He doesn’t want us to stumble or fall in the dark.

Thank you Lord for letting me see Your love clearly. For lighting my way and keeping me out of the smoke and the fog.

Super Hero Christians

Have you noticed that there are more super heroes than there used to be? When I was a kid we had Superman, Batman, Mighty Mouse and Underdog.

Oh yes the Marvel Comics had their super heroes but it wasn’t something I knew much about. I never aspired to be a super hero. If I read comics it was Archie, Blondie, Porky Pig, or Bugs Bunny.

Did you know there were those who considered themselves “super” men in Jesus day too? They called themselves Pharisees, Sadducees and Rulers of the Temple.

These were the folks who went around correcting every one for the tiniest of infractions of the Law. They followed Jesus, constantly trying to catch Him doing something wrong, so that they could condemn Him and disperse His followers. This is what Jesus said about their super pious and religious ways.

You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and you’re in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either.” Matthew 23:23 CEV

They criticized Jesus for eating dinner with common people (sinners) and for healing the crippled and the blind. His kindness to a prostitute and a tax collector was despised and ridiculed. His followers were common place; men who owned fishing businesses. The only one of any real stature in society was Luke the physician.

Sad to say, there are still many who think they should be awarded some superior status and  even have letters sewn to their chest and don a cape. There letters might be SSC, Super Spiritual Christian. However, they would meet with the same message from Christ that the rich man, Simon, was given when he invited Jesus to dinner.

Simon invited Him with ulterior motives. He and his associates were always trying to trip Jesus up. A woman of questionable reputation came into the house and she poured expensive perfume on Jesus. The dinner guests began to whisper demeaning words.

Jesus said to the Pharisee, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”

“Teacher, what is it?” Simon replied.

41 Jesus told him, “Two people were in debt to a moneylender. One of them owed him five hundred silver coins, and the other owed him fifty. 42 Since neither of them could pay him back, the moneylender said that they didn’t have to pay him anything. Which one of them will like him more?”

43 Simon answered, “I suppose it would be the one who had owed more and didn’t have to pay it back.”

“You are right,” Jesus said.

44 He turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Have you noticed this woman? When I came into your home, you didn’t give me any water so I could wash my feet. But she has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. 45 You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You didn’t even pour olive oil on my head, but she has poured expensive perfume on my feet. 47 So I tell you that all her sins are forgiven, and that is why she has shown great love. But anyone who has been forgiven for only a little will show only a little love.”

48 Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.” Luke 7:40-48 CEV

We are called to be like Christ not like the Pharisees. Our hearts should be filled with compassion, understanding, love and grace. People don’t need to be condemned for what they’ve done wrong. We all know, full well, when and where we have failed. We have been forgiven much!

Ours is a mission of forgiveness. We are called to walk in love; to treat one another kindly; to encourage and build up; to strengthen and support. We must live “graceful” lives; lives full of grace showing others that we understand it is only by God’s Grace that we have been forgiven.

God raised us up from death when He raised up Christ Jesus. He has given us a place with Christ in the heavens. He did this to show us through all the time to come the great riches of His loving-favor. He has shown us His kindness (grace)  through Christ Jesus.

For by His loving-favor (grace) you have been saved from the punishment of sin through faith. It is not by anything you have done. It is a gift of God. It is not given to you because you worked for it. If you could work for it, you would be proud. 10 We are His work. He has made us to belong to Christ Jesus so we can work for Him. He planned that we should do this.” Ephesians 2:6-10 NLV

If we are to wear any banner on our chest instead of it declaring us to be super heroes I think it would be best that we make it “GG” for God’s Grace!

We will encounter folks each day who have met a religious super saint and have been condemned. Let’s bee a grace giver; let them be changed by God’s love.

His Love Never Fails

Were you able to enjoy a harvest meal of love, patience and joy yesterday? I hope you found a bounty of good things in your garden and we able to feast well.

I have to be honest and tell you that I had a few struggles in the peace and patience categories. Life threw me a few curve balls and I missed with my swing.

No, I’m not going to get into a baseball analogy but I think you know what I mean. I thought things were going along well, I was being loving the way the Lord wanted me to when something unexpected happened and I reacted from my emotions and not from my spirit. I had to be patient and regain my peace. It took a while…a long while.

Then this morning I read these words:

I am surrounded by trouble, but you protect me against my angry enemies. With your own powerful arm you keep me safe. You, Lord, will always treat me with kindness. Your love never fails. You have made us what we are. Don’t give up on us now!” Psalm 138:7-8 CEV

I needed that reminder. His love never fails and He always treats me with kindness.  One translation of this verse says “He perfects that which concerns me”. Thank you Lord.

Our Father knows when we are concerned about things and He goes to work perfecting them. Maybe not the way we would but His ways are perfect and He treats us with kindness.

(I just took a deep breath and exhaled.) Can you feel the comfort in those words – you ALWAYS treat me with kindness! (Another deep breath). Peace, sweet peace, from the Father.

But my reading didn’t stop there. I continued on to Psalm 139. It was amazing how the Lord kept talking to me.

You have looked deep into my heart, Lord, and you know all about me. You know when I am resting or when I am working, and from heaven you discover my thoughts.

You notice everything I do and everywhere I go. Before I even speak a word, you know what I will say, and with your powerful arm  you protect me from every side. I can’t understand all of this!  Such wonderful knowledge is far above me.

Where could I go to escape from your Spirit or from your sight? If I were to climb up to the highest heavens, you would be there. If I were to dig down to the world of the dead you would also be there. Suppose I had wings like the dawning day and flew across the ocean. 10 Even then your powerful arm would guide and protect me. 11 Or suppose I said, “I’ll hide in the dark  until night comes to cover me over.” 12 But you see in the dark because daylight and dark are all the same to you.

13 You are the one who put me together inside my mother’s body, 14 and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous! Of this I have no doubt.

15 Nothing about me is hidden from you! I was secretly woven together deep in the earth below, 16 but with your own eyes you saw my body being formed.
Even before I was born, you had written in your book everything I would do.

17 Your thoughts are far beyond my understanding, much more than I could ever imagine. 18 I try to count your thoughts, but they outnumber the grains of sand on the beach. And when I awake, I will find you nearby.” Psalm 139:1-18 CEV

Everything you do is marvelous!”  Everything…everything God does is marvelous! He was there yesterday when I became impatient and lost my peace. He was there, speaking to my heart. He was there with His powerful arm to protect and guide.

He was there!

And He’ll be here today too!!  His love never fails! Amen.

Watching Them Grow

Yesterday we were at our grandson’s wedding but of course you knew that.

What a beautiful day!

I know it’s cliché, but they grow up so fast. Sitting there on the patio of the wedding venue Dave and I were recalling the times that he had come to visit, fishing trips, Christmases, making jam in the kitchen – the things that make memories for us as grandparents.

Of course we want to see them grow, mature and have many more exciting moments and make lasting memories.

Isn’t that just like our heavenly Father? His desire is to see us grow up and experience the life that He has designed for us. He wants us to dream big and achieve those dreams.

Let’s pray that our young sons will grow like strong plants and that our daughters will be as lovely as columns in the corner of a palace. 13 May our barns be filled with all kinds of crops. May our fields be covered with sheep by the thousands, 14  and every cow have calves.

Don’t let our city be captured or any of us be taken away, and don’t let cries of sorrow be heard in our streets. 15 Our Lord and our God, you give these blessings to all who worship you.” Psalm 144: 12-15 CEV

The Lord gives blessings to all of us who worship Him. I know I’ve said it before but God is more desirous of our success than we are. He has given us all the resources we need to grow in Him.

Let the wonderful kindness and the understanding that come from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help you to keep on growing. Praise Jesus now and forever! Amen.” II Peter 3:18 CEV

Do you see what these verses say? It’s by the kindness and understanding that we receive from the Lord that we grow. Yes, it’s possible to learn from trial and error but God’s plan is that we mature and develop by the good things He provides.

Love should always make us tell the truth. Then we will grow in every way and be more like Christ, the head 16 of the body. Christ holds it together and makes all of its parts work perfectly, as it grows and becomes strong because of love.” Ephesians 4:15-16 CEV

It’s by love that we grow perfectly and become stronger.

I can just hear our heavenly Father say, “I remember when you were little and you came to me wanting to share all of your life’s experiences with me. I’m so glad that you’ve grown up and still want to do that.”

At every stage of life God’s word has a message for us.

I write to you, dear children, because your sins are forgiven through Christ.
13 I write to you, fathers, because you know the one who existed from the beginning. I write to you, young people, because you have defeated the Evil One.
14 I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers,
because you know the one who existed from the beginning. I write to you, young people, because you are strong. The word of God lives in you, and you have defeated the Evil One.” I John 2:12-14 ERV

Thank you Father for all you have done and are still doing to see that I grow up and become like You.
